GCash Scams in the Philippines: How to Spot Fake GCash Texts, Links and Calls
GCash is used by tens of millions of Filipinos for padala, bills and online shopping, which makes it the most impersonated brand in local scam texts. Common tricks include fake 'account verification' or 'deactivation' texts with a phishing link, callers pretending to be GCash support who ask for your MPIN or OTP, fake prize and promo messages, the 'wrong send' trick where a stranger asks you to return money, and fake payment screenshots sent to online sellers on Facebook Marketplace. Once scammers have your OTP and MPIN, they can link your account to their device and drain your wallet and GSave balances.

“Hi po, pasensya na, na-wrong send ako ng ₱3,500 sa GCash mo. Pwede po paki-balik sa number na ito 09XX XXX XXXX? Pang-tuition po kasi ng anak ko. Salamat po!”

“Congratulations! Your GCash number won ₱20,000 in the GCash Anniversary Raffle. To claim, reply with your MPIN and the OTP we will send you. DTI Permit No. 1234 Series of 2026.”
Warning Signs of a GCash Scam
- ⚠Text says your GCash account will be 'deactivated', 'limited' or needs 'KYC re-verification' and includes a link
- ⚠Anyone asks for your MPIN, OTP or 'authentication code' — by text, call, Messenger or Viber
- ⚠Link leads to a lookalike domain such as gcash-verify.ph-app.com rather than the official GCash app or gcash.com
- ⚠A stranger says they sent money to you by mistake and asks you to send it back to a different number
- ⚠A buyer sends a payment screenshot but nothing appears in your actual GCash transaction history
How Does This Scam Work?
- 1You get a text, call, Messenger or Viber message claiming a problem with your GCash account or a prize
- 2The link opens a fake GCash login page, or the 'agent' walks you through a 'verification' over the phone
- 3You're asked for your mobile number, MPIN and the OTP sent by GCash

Does GCash send texts with links to verify my account?
GCash has repeatedly warned that it does not send links asking you to log in or verify your account. Do all verification inside the official app, and ignore links in texts.
Someone wrongly sent money to my GCash. Should I return it?
First check your transaction history in the app — often no money arrived and the message is fake. If a real transfer did arrive, don't send it to another number; ask the sender to file a report with GCash so it can be reversed properly.
